PE at St Augustine's

Our aim :

To ensure that pupils leaving primary school are physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

PE is a huge part of  our curriculum at St Augustines. All staff are dedicated to ensuring our children receive the best sport opportunities and PE lessons possible.  We have a sports coach in on Monday and Tuesday from Kickstart Education. He provides a range of opportunities, for children to develop their skills and offers a range of CPD opportunities for staff. We currently follow a scheme of planning called  'Get Set 4 PE'.

If you have any queries about PE or sporting events in school please speak to your child's teacher or with Mrs Stockton. If your child has completed any sporting events outside of school we would love to share their celebrations in school.  Please send details and photographs into school, or email

Thank you for your continued support.

Curriculum Intent

At St Augustine’s, we believe that high-quality physical education is essential to developing confident, resilient, and healthy young people. Our PE curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Through engaging and inclusive lessons, pupils develop physical competence, self-confidence, and an understanding of how to maintain lifelong health and wellbeing.

We place a strong emphasis on participation, enjoyment, and personal achievement. Our curriculum ensures that every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to experience success and develop a positive relationship with physical activity. Pupils are encouraged to persevere, set personal goals, and show values such as fairness, respect, and teamwork in all areas of school life.

We enrich our curriculum through collaboration with high-quality external providers, including Kickstart Education, WASSP, Bikeright, and local community clubs. These partnerships broaden our offer, provide expert coaching, and connect pupils with opportunities beyond school.

A wide range of after-school clubs, intra- and inter-school competitions, and community events ensure pupils can discover new interests, challenge themselves, and celebrate their achievements. Activities are carefully chosen to reflect our pupils’ interests and needs, ensuring a broad, balanced, and inclusive experience.

Our ultimate goal is for every pupil to leave St Augustine’s with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to lead an active, healthy lifestyle and a lasting love of physical activity.

PE Curriculum

Our PE curriculum follows the Get Set 4 PE scheme, which is fully aligned with the National Curriculum and approved by the Association for Physical Education (AfPE). The scheme focuses on the fundamentals of movement, which are introduced and developed in the EYFS and KS1 and then applied and refined in KS2 through a wide range of sports and activities. Our long-term plan reflects these core skills, ensuring clear progression and application across all year groups. This structure provides a broad, balanced, and sequential curriculum that enables pupils to build on prior learning and develop increasing competence and confidence.

We are committed to inclusion and accessibility so that every pupil, including those with additional needs, can participate and achieve in PE. Lessons are carefully adapted to meet the needs of all learners, fostering a sense of belonging and success for every child. Progress is continually monitored to ensure pupils develop physical skills, tactical understanding, and the ability to evaluate and improve their own performance. In addition, PE contributes significantly to pupils’ personal development, supporting mental wellbeing, resilience, and social skills that benefit them across the wider curriculum.
