Shrewsbury Diocese
If you require any additional information about the curriculum we follow in school please visit the Shrewsbury Diocese website here and click on the 'Education' tab. From here you can navigate to any aspect of the curriculum we follow within 'The Way, the Truth and the Life' that is necessary.
St Augustine's is also one of sixteen schools involved with the pilot of the new curriculum, 'Vine and Branches'.
Our Philosophy
St Augustine’s is a happy, caring school in which every individual is valued and encouraged to ‘be the best that they can be.’ This is deeply rooted in our Mission Statement, whereby ‘Following in the footsteps of Jesus’ is reflected in the positive relationships we foster.
We believe that having a good partnership between home, school, parish and community is central to preparing our children for the adult world and this is embedded within our RE curriculum. As part of Shrewsbury Diocese, we follow the scheme of work, ‘The Way, the Truth and the Life’ in Years 5 and 6, and the 'Vine and Branches' in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4, through which the children are enabled to explore what it means to be a Christian.
‘It is Jesus who said: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”. So it is Jesus who shows us the Way to lead a good and happy life. He tells us the Truth about God and he gives us new Life in the sacraments’. (Cardinal Vincent Nichols).
Celebration of the word is a focussed part of our daily school life and the outstanding provision we provide was recognised in our RE Inspection in July 2018 (see below). We have strong links with the Parish and Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School with whom we work closely to prepare our children for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
We are especially proud of the work the children do for various charities, both locally and internationally, through our ‘Covenant with the Poor’, part of which links to Catholic Social teaching, which is embedded in the teaching and prayer life of the school.
Through the work that we do here at St Augustine’s we aim to grow together in faith, love and respect, putting Christ at the centre of all that we do.

At St Augustine's Catholic Primary School our belief in the unique dignity of the human person as made in the image and likeness of God, underpins the approach to all education in our school. Our approach to relationship and sex education therefore is rooted in the Catholic Church's teaching of the human person and is presented positively and prudently.
At the heart of the Christian life is the Trinity, Father, Son and Spirit in communion, united in loving relationship and embracing all people and all creation.
