Home Learning in Year 1

Hello Year One! laugh

I hope you are enjoying your home learning and having fun doing some of the tasks that have been set for you. I know it's a little bit different for you and your families, but as long as you are trying your very best and using your learning powers I will be very happy and impressed. I have uploaded your new learning tasks for this week. I can't wait to see your Home Learning books when we get back to school. Also one child was able to take a picture of their home learning  via the email section of the website and send it to me! I'd love to see or read about what everyone else has been up to.

Stay safe and keep smiling!

Miss Riley

Remember that you can log on to Spelling Shed, School Website and Numbots. I can see all the hard work you are doing on each of these website so keep up the hard work! smiley

Also to keep in touch you can create a short blog entry on the school website every day, so that they can share their learning with us. This is located on their Home Page at the bottom.

Feel free to Tweet us a picture or a short video clip of your learning to @StAugustinesCPS and use #Y1homelearning

If you finish all the work set under Week 2 then there are 2 work books below for you to work through.

An overview of the year...

Welcome to Year 1's class page!

We are a class of 21 hardworking children, who love to learn.

Miss Riley and Mrs Howard are our teachers. Here you will find lots of pictures and videos celebrating all of our hard work. The page will also have important notices and any upcoming events. P.E will be on Monday and Wednesday so please make sure that your child has their P.E kit in school at all times. Homework will be sent home on a Friday and should be returned to school completed by Wednesday.  Please continue to read with your child at least three times a week.

Autumn B- Owl Babies

We have been reading the story Owl Babies. First we made predictions of what we thought was going to happen in the story by using information from the front cover and the blurb. We then made character hats to help us act out the story.

Autumn A- We have been learning all about the story ‘Supertato’ .  We have been predicting our own endings and using the small world characters to make up our own stories. Once we read the story, we loved it so much that we wanted to make our own Supertato’s.  We will be starting to do some amazing writing about our own Supertatos.

Autumn B- We have been learning all about Mary and how special she is. We have read the stories from the Bible leading up to Jesus' birth. We will be performing this story in the KS1 Nativity. We have talked about how we can prepare to celebrate Jesus' birth by making promises.

Autumn A- We have been learning lots of different stories from the Bible about how God created such a beautiful word for us to live in.  We have been retelling these stories using art, drama and small world resources. We made some posters in the making area to show how people can care for God’s world.

Autumn B- We have been learning all about Addition and Subtraction. We can add and subtract numbers using a variety of resources and methods.

Autumn A- We have been learning all about the place value of numbers. We have been ordering numbers and counting forwards and backwards, filling in the missing numbers. We have been working on one more and one less. We have also been using mathematical language to compare numbers.

We have been working on our agility and control skills this half term including, balancing and controlling our own movements to avoid collisions. We have really enjoyed our PE lessons. We have also learnt all about the effects of exercise and how it makes your heart beat faster.  We know that exercising is important to keep you fit and healthy.

The Local Area

We are developing our map skills by looking at maps of the local area. We started looking at our own classroom and we worked together to develop a messy map using keys to represent the different things in our classroom. We then uses Google Maps and other Maps to look at the local area, spotting the key things in the local area.  We then made our own large maps of the local area. We worked together to present our map to the rest of the class.
