An overview of the year...

Welcome to Year 1's class page!

We are a class of 18 hardworking children, who love to learn.

Miss Riley is our teacher and Mrs Howard is our teaching assistant. Here you will find lots of pictures and videos celebrating all of our hard work. The page will also have important notices and any upcoming events.

P.E will be on Monday and Thursday please make sure that your child has their P.E kit in school at all times.

A letter will be sent out, explaining what homework the children will be getting.

Please continue to read with your child at least three times a week.

Mission: Engender a love of reading.

In English, we will be looking at the books Monster Zoo and The Big Bad Owl.

We will be learning all about adjectives and using them to create character descriptions. We will also be writing non-chronological reports all about the interesting creatures in the book Monster Zoo.

When we look at the book Big Bad Owl, we will be retelling the story and writing instructions on how to cheer the owl up.

Throughout all of this work we will be focusing on our three writing rule which are - Capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will also be making sure we are using our phonics  knowledge when we read and write.

In Maths, We are learning all about the place value of numbers. We will be ordering numbers and counting forwards and backwards up to 50, filling in the missing numbers. We will be working on one more and one less.  We will begin to learn all about the Part-Part- Whole model and applying it to number calculations.  We will be learning lots of different methods to complete the calculations so that we become confident when answering different questions.

In RE, we have been learning all about Easter and just how special Jesus is.

We took part in Holy Week and learned and reflected about each day.

Our topic is called The Resurrection and we will be talking about how Jesus rose from the dead and thinking about how his friends might have felt.

We will then learn about how Jesus appeared to his disciples and how he ascended into heaven.

We have been working on our agility and control skills this half term including, balancing and controlling our own movements to avoid collisions. We have really enjoyed our PE lessons. We have also learnt all about the effects of exercise and how it makes your heart beat faster.  We know that exercising is important to keep you fit and healthy.

We will be focusing on a dance unit this half term all about old and new toys.
