MFL at St Augustine's

Curriculum Intent

The intention of the French curriculum at St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School is that children are taught to develop an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. We encourage children’s confidence, we strive to stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language. Planning includes links to develop their awareness of cultural differences in other countries. We strive to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning.

Our MFL curriculum is designed to progressively develop children skills in languages, through regular taught lessons. Children progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary organised around topics. We follow the ‘Primary Languages Network’ scheme of work to ensure coverage and progression across school. All our children in KS2 will have regular language lessons.

European Languages Day 25th September 2020

Year 5 have been inspired by the book 'Dear Zoo' for their task this year.  They each created a book page for their chosen language and translated the repeated text into a whole host of European languages.  They also added animation to reveal their chosen animal on each page.  Can you work out the languages they have researched?

Year 6 have really enjoyed Euorpean Languages Day 2020

Year 6 have focused on French. We have explored daily routines, telling the time and greetings and converstations. Linked to our Science topic, we have also explored the work of French artist and astronomer Lucien Rudaux.

Year 2 European Languages Day 2020

We enjoyed a visit to La Cafe, sampling some French cuisine! We also learned about famous landmarks, like the Eiffel Tower, and learned a few new phrases in French too! We had a busy, fun-filled day!

Year 1 European Languages Day 2020

Year 1 have had lovley day learning all about the country France. We have learned how to say hello and goodbye in French and we looked at the French flag. We then created some amazing art work of the Eiffel Tower.
